Grade 7 Academics

Grade 7 Academics

Welcome to Grade 7, your first year of Middle School and a time filled with unlimited opportunities to explore both in and out of the classroom. With the support of Middle School faculty, School Counsellors, Homeroom Teachers and Advisors, you and your peers will begin a journey where you can be curious and discover your interests, talents and passions. It is also a time to foster and broaden friendships and learn and build on many skills through an engaging and inspiring MYP programme.

Through the MYP programme, Middle School faculty who are subject specialists will help you explore new concepts and ideas while also supporting your development with strong Approaches to Learning skills. While there are few course selection options available, you will have opportunities to learn many new disciplines during this exploration phase. Whether it is through the Arts, where you will take Drama, Visual Arts, and have a choice of Vocal or Instrumental Music, having a designated Design class or being able to develop stronger French language skills through a Core or Extended program, Grade 7 courses will challenge you in a fulfilling and rewarding way.

There are various co-curriculars, clubs, leadership roles and social events to enjoy in Grade 7. You will also have the opportunity to work towards completing the Principal’s Award, which focuses on creativity, activity and community engagement. Grade 7 is a year filled with transition to greater independence and autonomy as learners with a supportive network along the way. Our School Counsellors, Advisors and Homeroom Teachers are always eager to answer any questions you may have.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.

Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
