On May 28, Stephanie FAUQUIER'07 kicked off Race with Steph with her first of ten triathlons in Victoria, British Columbia - a half ironman. A half ironman is 2km swim, 90 km bike, and 21 km run.

 

In early 2021, Steph mum, Dr. Robin McLeod - a globally renowned surgeon and recent recipient of the Order of Canada (Officer) was diagnosed with Aphasia, and later Alzheimer’s Disease. This was the most devastating news of Steph’s life - so she decided to do something about it.

 

Steph created Race with Steph to celebrate her mum, and create a national conversation around Alzheimer’s Disease. From May 28 to September 17, Steph is completing one triathlon in each Canadian province with the goal of raising money and awareness for Alzheimer’s Disease. By the end of the summer, Steph will have completed over 500 kms of racing. Money raised for Race with Steph will go to the University of Toronto’s Tanz Centre for Neurodegenerative Disease Research, where an endowment fund in Robin’s name will fund life-saving Alzheimer’s research in perpetuity.

This campaign is for Robin, and for all those affected by this horrible disease. There is so much we don’t know about Alzheimer’s, and yet we know that it disproportionately affects women. We know that people with Alzheimer’s disease feel isolated, embarrassed, and ashamed. Let’s come together and talk about this, and so much more.
