Hilary MacMILLAN'05 Nominated for 2023 CAFA Womenswear Designer of the Year Award

Congratulations to Hilary MacMILLAN'05, who was nominated for the 2023 CAFA Womenswear Designer of the Year Award.
Hilary MacMILLAN'05 is the owner of self-titled Hilary MacMillan, a contemporary, ready-to-wear women's fashion brand based in Toronto. The brand is entirely female-run and incredibly inclusive offering clothing in sizes ranging from XS–4X as well as trendy accessories and home goods. With a focus on using high-quality materials and a majority of their production occurring in Canada, its no wonder why Hilary MacMillan is a stand-out innovative brand that has become one of Canada's top choices for cruelty-free fashion.

After graduating from Branksome in 2005, Hilary earned a BA in Political Science and Economics from the University of British Columbia. Inspired by her passion for the design process, she continued her studies, this time in Fashion Design at Blanche MacDonald, and a few years later, in 2013 she started her brand.

In 2022, Hilary MacMillan released a collaboration with Barbie®, started a new pop-up store and garnered a nomination for Womenswear Designer of the Year at the Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards (CAFA). 2023 brings her another CAFA nomination for Womenswear Designer of the Year. As the awards gala fast approaches on October 14 we wish Hilary all the best and can't wait to see what she does next!

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.

Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
