Karen Jurjevich to Be Honoured with CAIS Lifetime Achievement Award

The Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS) has announced that Branksome Hall Principal Karen Jurjevich has been selected to receive a CAIS Lifetime Achievement Award. The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to an individual who has served 25 years as a Head of School, with a minimum of 20 years in a CAIS school. This recognition is a timely and meaningful way to acknowledge Karen’s 25 years of passionate, visionary and innovative leadership at the school. As she shared with the Branksome community in October 2022, she will be stepping away from her role as Principal in June 2024.
"This national award recognizes the transformational impact of Karen's leadership at Branksome Hall,” noted CAIS Executive Director Anand Mahadevan, “where she has brought in IB, helped to create a thriving campus in Korea, and led work in leading research-based change and inclusion within the school. In addition to leading by example at Branksome, Karen has been a mentor and support to school leaders across Ontario, Canada and beyond. Her advocacy of Girls' education and support for Get Ahead Schools in South Africa have helped to improve not just the educational outcomes of Canadian students, but also those in the world beyond our borders. It is fitting that we recognize Karen's contributions to educational leadership within the CAIS community with a Lifetime Achievement Award."

A virtual ceremony will be held by CAIS in June, and Karen will be invited to share her wisdom and lessons from the leadership journey with an Art of Leadership talk during the upcoming school year.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.

Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
