Emily MacLean appointed new Head of the Junior School
Emily MacLean has been appointed the new Head of the Junior School at Branksome Hall, effective July 1, 2021.
An innovative, versatile and globally minded educational leader, MacLean is ideally suited to the role. She began her teaching career at Branksome as a PYP Teacher and Residence Assistant a decade ago, before taking on a number of international leadership roles.
“It’s always wonderful to welcome community members back to Branksome Hall,” says Principal Karen Jurjevich.
MacLean will be responsible for the academic, operational and administrative leadership of the Junior School, as well as curriculum and faculty leadership. Building upon a caring and inclusive culture grounded in social-emotional learning (SEL), MacLean will bring a lens of international mindedness to the integrated student experience. Relationships and communications with parents, as well as ensuring academic excellence and the smooth operation of the Junior School, will also be key elements of her portfolio. A member of the Senior Leadership Team, MacLean will report to the Deputy Principal.
Most recently, MacLean served as Deputy Head of the Junior School at Trinity Grammar School in Melbourne, Australia since 2017, where she was responsible for pastoral care of all students from the Early Learning Centre (ELC) to Year 6. She supported the day-to-day operations of the Junior School, developed staff capacity through coaching and professional development, and led and supported innovative practices for teaching and learning.
She previously spent six years at Chatsworth International School in Singapore, and one year at Beanstalk International Bilingual School in Beijing, China. She holds a double Master’s of Education (Educational Leadership and Information Technologies) from Charles Sturt University, a Bachelor of Education (Primary/Junior) from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Science from Dalhousie University.
An experienced Junior School leader with a strong background in technology integration, action research and positive change management, MacLean is known for bringing the lens of the IB to everything she does.
