Off the road but not out of the race to “CRUSH COVID”

The COVID-19 quarantine may be keeping competitive cyclists out of the race for now, but don’t count them out. That’s why Holly Clarke will be riding indoors for four hours straight, as part of her “Toronto Hustle” cycling team’s 24-hour, indoor stationary-bike marathon to support frontline healthcare workers, April 24 to 25.
“We’re usually working to promote cycling and advocate for safer streets,” says Clarke, Branksome Hall’s Senior Development Officer, Database Management. “Now we’re working to give back.” Indeed, all funds raised as part of the “CRUSH COVID” Marathon will support the Michael Garron Hospital Foundation.

“Every day, our frontline healthcare teams are inspired by the many ways the community is rallying around the hospital,” says Mitze Mourinho, incoming Branksome Hall parent and President of the Michael Garron Hospital Foundation.

The team has two riders who will cycle for 24 hours straight. They include Toronto Hustle Founder Brad Bradford, Toronto City Councillor for Beaches-East York. The participants make use of a virtual cycling program called Zwift, which enables training and interacting online.

“Our goal is to ensure hospitals can respond to emerging priorities and purchase equipment as the situation evolves,” says Clarke.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.

Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
