Keep Well the Road, Class of 2019

Each year, our Grade 12 students are celebrated at an intimate GY Breakfast for students and their families. The annual gathering is a time to honour the achievements of the graduating class and to celebrate this important milestone.
“Each one of you has proven your determination, persistence and love of learning,” said Karrie Weinstock, Deputy Principal, at the breakfast. “I know how hard you’ve worked to get here today and am so proud of all you’ve accomplished,” echoed Karen Jurjevich, Principal. “I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in the years to come.”

During the breakfast, engagement pins were awarded to those who demonstrated exceptional commitment to the Branksome community. Pins were presented for Drama, Music, Athletics, Slogan and Perennial.

The three GY Student Representatives, Emily, Amanda and Maddi, also revealed the Class of 2019 gift. “Our class decided to leave behind a legacy that spoke to who we are as a class and our values,” said Maddi. “We chose to support student financial assistance and established the new Class of 2019 Endowed Bursary Fund.”

“We decided to support a bursary because we strongly believe all deserving students should be able to attend Branksome, regardless of their families’ means,” added Emily.

“An amazing 98 per cent of Grade 12 students participated in the campaign – setting a new record for participation in a GY gift campaign,” said Amanda. A second fundraising campaign, in partnership with GY parents, garnered a 77 per cent participation rate – another record. In total, contributions from students and parents to the Class of 2019 Bursary total a remarkable $74,104. “The bursary will be awarded for the first time in the 2020-21 school year and will continue to be awarded each year afterward,” said Maddi proudly.

“What an incredible legacy you are leaving behind for future generations,” commended Mrs. Weinstock to a class that is known for its inclusivity of each other and of the wider community.

Students and parents also heard from Melanie ARGIROS’08, an executive member and nominations chair of the Branksome Hall Alumnae Association (BHAA). Melanie wished a special congratulations to the five alum mothers of GY daughters and welcomed all GY’s into the BHAA. “As new alum, you’re joining a vibrant community of more than 5,500 intelligent, confident and diverse women based in cities around the world,” said Melanie.

We congratulate all of our Grade 12 students and wish them success as they continue to keep well the road beyond Branksome.
