Building community and international mindedness at BH MUN team’s first in-person Model United Nations Conference in over two years
On the weekend of April 30 and May 1, 17 members of the BH MUN team attended the Southern Ontario Model United Nations Assembly (SOMA XLIX), hosted by UTS and the University of Toronto. This event was especially meaningful and exciting as it was the first in-person MUN conference attended by the BH MUN team in more than two years.
Grade 10 student and SOMA Head Delegate Yara shared her reflections on the experience:
From General Assembly, to Security Council to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and other specialized committees, students participated in spirited and fruitful negotiations with other students from around Ontario to create solutions to some of the world’s most challenging problems. There was great success amongst the BH delegates who represented the interests of their assigned countries well, and did not shy away from taking the lead during debate and caucus sessions.
With this being the first in-person conference for many, it was truly an incredible experience! We made connections with delegates from other schools, worked together as a team to support each other, and of course, brainstormed the best superlatives possible. Overall, it was an outstanding weekend, and I am so proud of everyone for their hard work, dedication and enthusiasm!
