Dr. Mohamed Elhaddad & Ms. Alaa Matar

“Branksome creates an atmosphere that encourages learning and knowledge and enhances that with caring, personal attention and personal development. This is the right community for our family.”
Arriving in Canada three years ago, Dr. Mohamed Elhaddad and his wife Alaa Matar had “no friends, no family.”

The couple, pharmacists born and raised in Egypt, were looking to create a community of support for their family in their new home. They never imagined finding that at their daughter Maya’s school.

“I always thought of school as a base to learn and that’s it, until Maya joined Branksome,” says Mohamed. “Branksome is about learning, but also about caring.”

Maya is now in SK, and is having a wonderful experience. The family made a major gift to fund the transformation of a Grade 4 room into a new “classroom of tomorrow” bearing their name.

“We love how engaging and modern the new classes will be for the girls,” Mohamed says.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.

Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
