Walk for Wenjack (Grades JK-12)

Park Drive Ravine
All students will take part in the Walk for Wenjack on Friday, September 27. As a Downie Wenjack Legacy School, this important event fosters discussion and awareness around the tragic history of residential schools in Canada.

About Walk for Wenjack
In 2020, Branksome Hall joined the Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Foundation Legacy Schools Program. Secret Path Week is an opportunity for people to answer Gord Downie’s call to action, to “Do Something” by creating a reconciliACTION and furthering the conversation about the history of residential schools which we begin in September leading up to Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.*

*The Land Acknowledgement may evolve as we honour our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation in partnership with Indigenous communities.

Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
