Branksome Hall News

Alum Rows for Canada

In Grade 9, Isabel RUBY-HILL’15 began rowing at Branksome Hall and quickly fell for the sport.
“Branksome’s rowing team made me love the sport from the start,” said Isabel. “The people you meet and the fun we would have on the training trips and at regattas are some of my best memories from high school.”

Eight years later, Isabel’s still rowing strong, now in her final year at Duke University. “I love rowing because of the competition, the people and the commitment. It’s a sport that rewards you for how hard you work, which I really value,” said Isabel.

Along the way, Isabel has gained a lot of attention for her talent. “At Duke, I was named ‘Freshman of the Year’ and was a Captain last year,” said Isabel. “Last summer I also rowed at Argonaut Rowing Club and was named ‘Oarswoman of the Year’.”

This past July, Isabel also earned herself a spot on Canada’s Under 23 National Rowing Team, representing the country at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Poznan, Poland.

“Being on the U23 National Team means a lot to me. Representing Canada, training with the country’s best rowers and racing against the world’s most talented U23 rowers is exciting and inspiring,” Isabel said.

Isabel didn’t disappoint: her Under 23 Women’s Eight team came in first place at the championships!

Congratulations to Isabel and all of our alum who are achieving their remarkable goals.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.

Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
