SSUNS Shines on Our Students
Twenty-eight delegates from Branksome Hall represented Indonesia, Italy, Denmark and various crisis committees at the Secondary Schools’ United Nations Symposium (SSUNS), a Model United Nations conference in Montreal.
We were delighted to see awards given to Morgan Headrick, representing Indonesia, for her topic “United Nations Crime Prevention,” to Signy Matthews, representing Italy, on “the World Trade Organisation,” and to Imaan Mulji on “Aphrodite: Mount Olympus Crisis Committee.”
Accompanied by Ms Marshall (MUN Director), Mr. Brownson, and Ms Higginson, students ventured to the downtown Hotel Centre Sheraton Montreal to participate in the annual conference hosted by McGill University. With more than 1,500 high school students from around the world, the Model UN conference aims for students to engage in relevant discussion and collaborative thinking regarding the most pressing world issues.
Head delegates Nuha Maliath and Madeleine Griffith, with support from Ms Marshall, had been preparing Branksome students for the conference since September.
There was also plenty of time for fun outside of the conference to explore the vibrant city of Montreal. One highlight of the weekend was the Delegate Gala, where the girls got to know other delegates outside of their committees.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.
Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
