A Message from Branksome Hall on the Crisis in Ukraine

As we continue to follow the evolving situation in Ukraine, we offer our heartfelt sympathy and support to all the people impacted by the events unfolding in Eastern Europe.
These events over the past several days have been deeply distressing and shocking, and we understand that many within our community and beyond are grappling to understand them. Conversations are taking place among students and colleagues, in classrooms and in homes. In addition to the updates and firsthand accounts shared in the media and on social media, we are also hearing questions about the role of nations and alliances in responding to the crisis in Ukraine. For many of us, watching the events unfold provokes strong emotions as they impact so many of our community members and their families.

As conversations continue, we are committed to providing support and resources to our employees and students, including drop-in sessions with our Social Workers, School Counsellors and the Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. In the days ahead, we will continue to pause and check in with ourselves, members of our community and loved ones who have been impacted by these recent events. Our hope is for a swift and peaceful resolution to this conflict.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.

Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
