A message to our community in support of Nova Scotia
During these past weeks, we have learned and witnessed firsthand how compassion and resilience are essential as we support each other through challenging times.
This compassion and resilience are needed now more than ever as we face this unprecedented global health crisis, and even more so given the recent tragic events in Nova Scotia.
As a school community, we mourn with the families, friends and neighbours of the victims, and all those directly or indirectly impacted by this weekend's tragic violence in Portapique, Nova Scotia, the worst mass shooting in Canadian history.
A number of our community members are from Nova Scotia, or have family or friends who live there now. We currently have more than twenty alums living in the region. Our hearts go out to them, and we share in their sorrow. Our campus flag has been lowered to half-mast to honour those who have lost their lives. We are observing moments of silence in Advisor group meetings and at our all-employee meeting this week.
We are all being called upon to show our strength and our commitment to one another. There are urgent and challenging lessons to learn here, with many of us experiencing feelings of grief, anxiety, stress and a sense of isolation. Your daughters may have questions as they process this difficult news. There are a number of supports in place for them, including one-to-one phone or Zoom consultations with their Guidance counsellor, our school nurse and social worker. Kids Help Phone is also available 24/7 for confidential support for young people via phone (1.800.668.6868) and text (CONNECT to 686868).
Please know that in these uncertain and challenging times, we are here for you and your daughters. We will get through this together.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.
Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
