Summer Sporting Success

While our Athletics programs are kicking off on campus this fall, some students have been hard at work over the summer developing their skills and competing in national and international competitions.
Here are a few noteworthy Branksome student accomplishments:

  • Caitlyn K. had an impressive summer of skating. She was one of six novice figure skaters in Canada selected to compete at the North American Cup. She placed in the top five and had the highest score for her long program.
  • Bridget W. won the Ontario U13 Girls’ Golf Championship in Wasaga Beach, Ontario. She shot an impressive +1 (72) and took the championship by 10 strokes.
  • Emily B. played rugby for U18 Canada East and won in a match against U18 USA West.
We are so proud of our students whose hard work and training paid off this summer as they competed alongside the best. The skills they have learned through participating on Branksome teams, as well as in their own athletic endeavours, reach far beyond their physical abilities. Through sport, these young women have developed interpersonal and self-management skills and have seen firsthand the results of their discipline and hard work. These lessons don’t just improve their game on the ice, the course, or the field, but also in their everyday social and academic lives.

We look forward to the start of a new athletics year at Branksome Hall and encourage all of our students to get involved in physical activity, whether it be trying out for a team or participating in Fit Fridays. Being active is an important part of wellbeing on campus and we look forward to seeing students, both experienced and novice, try something new this year.

Go, Highlanders!

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.

Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
