Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Branksome Hall

Branksome Hall is committed to making sure our school community is a diverse, equitable and inclusive place to learn and to work. Our aim is to be a community that embraces diversity, equity and inclusion so that it permeates our institutional culture, guides our actions, and is reflected in our students’ and employees’ lived experiences. We also aim to be a community where diversity, equity, inclusion and restorative justice involve engaging multiple perspectives, critically challenging assumptions, and taking empathetic, informed and responsible action in our school, our partnerships and in the world.

This site offers a range of resources to support our community living these values.

Message from Head, Research and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Belonging and Thriving

At Branksome Hall, we are committed to building a vibrant and thriving community that values diversity in all its forms and helps each member to flourish at our school. In our increasingly interconnected and complex world, our diversity, equity and inclusion program is rooted in anti-racism and anti-discrimination education. We achieve this vision through our courses, our co-curricular programming (for example, Assemblies and Clubs), speakers and the many amazing learning opportunities we have at the school.

Since 2020, diversity, equity and inclusion has become an important lens through which we make choices about our programs and practices, our policies and our procedures. Given that DEI is such iterative and ongoing work, our progress is also marked by the actions we take every day.

After conducting an organizational review that engaged all community groups and touched all corners of our school, we created an action plan centred on capacity building and programming that will serve us for the years to come. As part of this process, we heard from alums, students, parents and employees about their experiences and their hopes for the future. Key to our work and ongoing commitment are the diverse voices in our community—voices that continue to offer feedback on our priorities, helping to build a shared understanding of why inclusive spaces benefit everyone and why actions they can take on their own, as well as together, make a difference in our school and our world.

Together, we not only belong but we thrive!

    LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.

Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
