Interviews and Assessments
JK & SK
Junior Kindergarten is a major entry year with 14 spaces available and Senior Kindergarten has more limited spaces, with up to 6 openings.

Parents/guardians of Junior and Senior Kindergarten applicants will be contacted directly by the Admissions team to schedule an interview. Students will not be questioned directly during the interview. In-person interviews will take place in January/February 2023.

At the time of the parent/guardian interview, a playdate assessment will be held where applicants will join other applicants in the classroom to participate in activities that examine language development, both oral and written, mathematical learning, creativity, motor development, social strengths and personal attributes. The environment is relaxed and is structured to be as much like a real school day experience as possible.

Grades 1-3
Grade 1 is a major entry year with up to 14 spaces available. There are more limited openings for Grades 2 and 3, with up to 8 potential openings.

Interviews can be booked directly by parents/guardians through the application checklist. This family interview will include questions to the applicant first, followed by the parents/guardians. No preparation is necessary, as it is an opportunity for us to connect and get to know prospective students and their families.

Students applying to Grades 1-3 will participate in an in-person structured group assessment through a playdate. Reading readiness and skill and mathematical skills are tested. Fine motor and verbal skills are assessed through conversation and observation. Behavioural and social skills are also assessed through group tasks and time in the gym. The playdate will be held in January/February and the Admissions team will communicate with families directly regarding this event.

Grade 4
Grade 4 has limited openings, with up to 4 available spaces.

Interviews can be booked directly by parents/guardians through the application checklist. This family interview will include questions to the applicant first, followed by the parents/guardians. No preparation is necessary, as it is an opportunity for us to connect and get to know prospective students and their families.

Students applying to Grade 4 will write an entrance assessment that will provide the Admissions team with more details about each applicant’s skills in language and math. The assessment will be scheduled in early 2022 and the Admissions team will communicate with families directly regarding this event.

Grades 5 & 6
As Grades 5 and 6 are not entry years, we do not conduct a full admissions process until we have confirmed openings. Applications are encouraged in the event spaces become available. Should we move forward with the application, an Admissions member will be in contact to schedule your interview.

Land Acknowledgement
We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.
