 Tax Benefits

As a registered charity, Branksome Hall and The Branksome Hall Foundation issue Canadian charitable tax receipts for eligible gifts. You can claim your tax receipts on your, or your spouse's, Canadian income tax return in the year the gift was made, or you may carry them forward for up to five tax years.

Canadians are allowed to claim charitable tax receipts up to 75% of their net income in any one year.

While the value of your tax credit varies across provinces, in general you can expect to reduce your tax by 22 cents per dollar for the first $200 given to charity. For charitable donations after the first $200, you save approximately 43 cents for every dollar donated.

If, for example, you have already made $200 in charitable gifts this year, a gift of $1,000 to Branksome Hall will save you approximately $430 in income tax. Your gift of $1,000 will cost you only $570, while Branksome receives the full $1,000 gift benefit.

For more detailed information about how charitable tax receipts will affect your income tax, please consult your personal accountant.
