 Catalysts in Inspiration

Educators Oksana Jajecznyk and Deepa Raj instilled in Michelle Yang a love of science during her high school years at Branksome Hall. Then Michelle met Nobel Peace Prize Winner Dr. Brad Bass when he came to the school. He then mentored her during the BioFilter Project—a project that earned Michelle a bronze award at the Toronto Science Fair.

Michelle has gone on to mentor other students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), as organizer of the Fall Info Night for the Science Expo Youth Empowerment Group, Co-Head of the Science Enrichment Club, and as a Math tutor. She was also part of a five-person Global Ideas team that met at the Munk Centre, at the University of Toronto, in an effort to solve malnutrition in India.

Michelle demonstrates the ability to reason, analyze and think creatively. She embraces opportunities for inquiry and welcomes the chance to give back to the broader community, as a leader and a team player.
