 Embracing Adventure and Change

As co-leader of three Branksome Hall service trips to Costa Rica, Library Technician Deann Rousseau says she gained a sense of how "sheltered" she had been.

"The physical and emotional challenges of these trips taught me to take risks, and not to let fear hold me back," she says.

Ms Rousseau strives to instill that same ethos of openness to challenge and adventure in her Grade 9 Advisor group and she has earned  their trust and respect.

Ms Rousseau sees the Advisor program as a protected time away from external pressures that helps girls to bond and to take a break in their busy day. It's also a chance to foster deep commitment to community service, both local and global. She encourages every student to "find a lasting community service opportunity that goes beyond a requirement to become a passion."

Transformational leadership, Ms Rousseau believes, is about enthusiasm, positivity and embracing change. "Now I jump at every chance to try something new."
