 Being a Leader

Leadership at Branksome is more than a title and a new tie. When you're  a Branksome student, leadership becomes a way of life.

Junior School leadership

Experiences in the Junior School help girls to grow into natural leaders by the time they reach Grade 6. In Grade 6, students follow a rotation of duties that include Clan Leaders, Action Committee and Welcoming Committee. Grade 6 girls also have the opportunity to serve as Junior School Ambassadors, giving tours to guests and visitors throughout the school year.

Our leadership profile

Our leadership profile was developed by Senior and Middle School students and reflects our 21st century goals and values.

Girls interested in taking on a formal leadership role look to the profile to identify the values they have and which ones need further development:

  • Are they good at making decisions and at reading groups and situations but have difficulty moving the group toward change?
  • Do they see the impact of powerful communication strategies and want to develop those skills?
  • Or do they see the challenges in front of them but aren’t sure about how to tackle them effectively?

With the leadership profile available as a living document,
using multi-media and interdisciplinary approaches, students can see the skills that leaders in the world use to address ordindary and extraordinary challenges. They can identify the skills necessary to be an effective 21st century leader and see where their own skills fit on the continuum of skill growth and development.

When can you start being a leader?

Whether you wish to be Head Girl or organize your Advisor group to do a service activity, leadership starts as a desire to take on a new role>>
