 Residence Programs

Residence Orientation Program
All Residence students, Canadian and international, attend our week-long Residence Orientation Program in late August. Orientation Week is an essential time for students to get settled into life at Branksome Hall and helps girls transition into the Residence community.

The program includes:
  • Individual meetings with each girl's guidance counsellor, language coordinator, and the school nurse
  • Assessments of each girl's speaking, listening and writing skills
  • Strategies to prepare each girl for academic success at Branksome Hall
  • Emersion in an English-language environment and Canadian culture
  • Appointments at the Uniform Shop for a personalized uniform fitting
  • Excursions with Residence staff to introduce students to their new home-away-from-home and help them feel comfortable in Toronto
  • Shopping trips to buy necessities such as a local cell phone, toiletries, cold-weather clothes, and school supplies
  • The opportunity to create strong friendships and remarkable memories!

Residence Weekday and Weekend Events
During the week, the Residence community is busy with enriching programming:
  • Personal training sessions and free time in the Fitness Centre
  • Lane and free swim in the salt-water pool
  • Book club
  • Math clinic
  • Dance club

Weekends are for exploring interests outside the classroom and for learning more about the world around us. Residence Dons will lead excursions off-campus to discover the diversity of Toronto neighbourhoods such as:
  • Chinatown
  • Greektown
  • Little India
  • Koreatown

Global Citizenship begins by looking at our local community and realizing we can make a difference. Residence students can participate in service activities such as:
  • Keep Well the Woodlot on campus or tree planting locally
  • Breast Cancer ribbon making initiative
  • Community service activities at New Circles or Daily Bread Food Bank

Imagine trying something totally different and discovering a new passion! Residence weekend events are designed to do just that. Our student likt to try new things such as:
  • cooking or baking
  • ice-skating
  • rock-climbing
  • yoga and meditation
  • hip-hop dancing

Every weekend from January to March, Branksome Hall and other local independent schools partner with Snowhawks Ski and Snowboard School to offer organised lessons and lots of fun at Blue Mountain, an hour's drive north of Toronto.

Over a long weekend, Residence staff organize an overnight trip to explore areas outside Toronto such as a visit to Canada's capital, Ottawa, or an introduction to French-Canadian culture in Montreal or Quebec City.

In the spring, we plan a trip to Canada's Wonderland, an amusement park with rollercoasters, to celebrate Senior Graduation and the end of the school year!
