Not your average playground
Many young teens and pre-teens may feel that the average school playground isn’t suited to their maturing needs. But it’s still crucial for this age group to reap the benefits of outdoor physical fitness.
In 2010, a new playground was installed to meet the fun and fitness needs of Branksome’s Middle Division students. The play area includes a climbing apparatus with a spinner, which easily accommodates two students. There’s also a rocking platform where friends can gather and a “supernova” wheel that spins on an incline. All of the equipment rests on a spongy surface, designed to cushion any falls that might occur.
“This exciting new area is ideal for girls ages 12 to 14 to socialize in a healthy, open-air environment,” says Joanne Colwell, Director of Student Life. “The elements of the playground are somewhat quirky and creative — features that our students appreciate.”
Students appreciate the opportunity to gather with their friends on the equipment on warm days. In short, this innovative playground is a hit!
