Every Branksome graduation is a special occasion, but the 2010 ceremony featured a double delight. Sisters Maya and Teya were both chosen by their classmates to offer words of inspiration as Valedictorians. The twins urged the graduates to value their Branksome friendships and to seize the opportunities ahead.

For this year’s Spirit Week, we chose to hold a community service competition that featured a school supply drive for our partner school QGAP in South Africa and Rose Avenue Park School in Toronto. Each grade brought in so many school supplies that we decided to donate them to a wide range of Toronto schools!

Grade 11 student Liz Stratton has been named the 2010 National Public Speaking Champion of Canada. Along with Branksome teammates Zeenia Framroze (Grade 11) and Anisah Mahomed (Grade 9), Liz represented Ontario during the National Public Speaking Championship held at St. John’s-Ravenscourt School in Winnipeg, Manitoba, last month.

It didn’t take long for Branksome students, faculty and staff to take action to help support the people of Haiti in their time of extreme and severe loss. Hours after the mid-January earthquake, e-mail after e-mail came in from students and teachers making suggestions about what the Branksome community could do.

Any student with her sights set on the Math Olympiad could take a few tips from Grade 12 student Lydia, who has been invited to write the 2010 Canadian Math Olympiad in March. This invitation was a result of her success in the Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge, which she wrote last November 25, together with 20 other Branksome students.
