“I find no better connection with the girls than when I tell them ‘I’m a student too!’”
I am passionate about exploring new teaching methodologies. As a math and science teacher, I am always looking for innovative ways to introduce challenging concepts. My goal is to alleviate the anxiety that students sometimes have about these subjects by delivering engaging lessons that turn difficult subjects into enjoyable learning experiences.

One of the most valuable aspects of the IB Program is that it champions global awareness. The IB program inspires me to integrate multiple perspectives into my classroom; for example, a lesson on percentages and taxes might include a discussion of austerity measures in Greece.

My students inspire me! I truly believe that teenagers get an unfair reputation in society, when they actually do so many amazing things. In addition to being dedicated learners, our girls are also committed athletes, accomplished artists and caring members of our community.

Branksome provides incredible support to faculty as we integrate new technologies into our lessons. In a recent workshop, I had the chance to explore how students can use tablet computers more effectively in the classroom. Even though I’ve been teaching with tablets for years, the workshop provided me with a fantastic opportunity to examine and improve my approach to this technology.

I believe that enthusiasm is an incredible tool in the classroom. I was fortunate to have an amazing biology teacher in high school who was enthusiastic about both the material and the process of learning. My goal is to bring this same joy of learning into my classroom everyday.

My favourite quotation is “To teach is to learn twice.” – Joseph Joubert. This quote is not only accurate, but it is also a metaphor for my desire to be a lifelong learner. As I pursue my own Doctor of Education from OISE, I find no better connection with the girls than when I tell them “I’m a student too!”
