“Being an English teacher is a natural extension of my love of kids and my love of books.”

People have told me that I was born to be a teacher, and being an English teacher is a natural extension of my love of kids and my love of books.

I began teaching in a suburb of Detroit, where I grew up, and I also taught for five years at Dunbarton High School in Pickering before coming to Branksome.

I love teaching young women. In addition to analyzing the beauty of language and literature, being an English teacher affords the opportunity to discuss important topics, like what it means to be human, how individuals are influenced by family, culture and societal expectations.

I get great pleasure from interacting with my students and colleagues. I hope my students feel well supported.

The IB program has grown on me. I especially like the international focus, and, in English that means the study of books in translation. Though Branksome students have always been well prepared to meet university expectations, the oral component of our program and the application of Theory of Knowledge enhances their preparation.

I enjoy going to concerts, plays and films, and I love to travel in the summer; and of course, I love to read.
