Curriculum

Branksome Hall’s Junior School sparks a joy and interest in learning that will stay with a student for life. Caring teachers stimulate natural curiosity. Small classes allow for the personal attention that helps a young girl thrive and develop her self-esteem.

Students follow a coordinated curriculum that provides a solid grounding in basic skills and promotes good study habits. From the earliest age, girls learn to express themselves as competent communicators and to develop self-reliance.

Students learn through inquiry-based instruction within a variety of subject disciplines including English and French, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, and Physical Education. All students learn to use technology through hands-on experiences  In Grade 6, an Extended French program is available for those wishing to pursue advanced studies in French in the Middle Division.

Assemblies, clans, field trips, guest speakers and “big sisters” from the Senior School enhance the learning experience. Beyond the classroom, a wide variety of clubs and sports  provide additional opportunities for friendship, teamwork and leadership.

Branksome offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP) from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6. Authorized to deliver the PYP in 2004, Branksome Hall is committed to providing a continuum of international education to our students. As with all IB Programs, the PYP’s over arching goal is to foster responsible citizenry; to educate young women who are able to think critically and learn independently. Program curricula are developed and revised based on the latest research related to brain development and how children learn. Assessment of the programs at each institution, and of student work, is based on solid, consistent criteria found at every IB school, anywhere in the world.
