Junior School

Using the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate as our framework, we have an articulated curriculum based on the five essential PYP elements that direct the program: concepts, skills, knowledge, attitudes and action. Branksome Hall is proud of how our teachers and students integrate all aspects of the PYP in their approach to teaching and learning.

PYP pedagogy is embedded in best practices for teaching young children, following an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary and holistic approach to learning. Using six internationally set guiding themes, students learn globally relevant, challenging and significant concepts. The PYP provides a consistent and coherent framework from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 6 that matches our beliefs and educational research about how children learn best.

Within the context of our increasingly global communities, the PYP challenges students to think critically, research deeply and develop internationally-minded perspectives on a broad range of issues.
