Senior School, Grades 9 to 11

This information is designed to guide families through the application process at Branksome Hall. Here are the steps to take if you are applying to Grades 9 and higher:

Plan a visit

Visiting the school is an essential part of your research. There are many ways to see the school.

Submit an application

Apply early!

Submit an application to the school anytime in the fall of the year preceding entry. The deadline is December 16, 2011 for entry in September 2012.

The Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) does NOT need to be completed before the interview. Branksome Hall does NOT use this test as a screen.

Please submit the following:

A completed online application form>>
Application fee of $200.
Recent report cards: the most recent report card plus the final report cards from the two previous years.
Any other pertinent educational information that might assist the school in understanding your daughter's history (e.g. an educational assessment).
A student profile, completed by your daughter.

Arrange for an interview

Once you have submitted your online application, you will be prompted to contact the school to arrange for the interview. During the interview you will meet one of the Admissions Associates, faculty members and students. You will be offered a customized tour, led by a student. Students are interviewed alone, then the family is invited to spend time speaking with the Admissions representative.

Plan to be at the school for two hours. No special preparation is necessary for the interview.

Register for an SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test)

Students applying for Grades 9-11 must write the SSAT.

  • Applicants for Grade 12 write the Branksome Hall entrance test in English and mathematics.
  • Students whose first language is NOT English may be asked to do additional entrance testing to determine language proficiency.
  • Please apply to SSAT directly, not through the school.
  • Please go to the SSAT website for more information about registering for SSAT testing. Local (Toronto area) applicants may view the local SSAT calendar in the fall.
  • The school does NOT encourage the use of tutors for preparation — the best way to prepare is to do the practice tests supplied at the website or in the SSAT booklet.
  • Testing more than once is strongly discouraged — doing so makes NO appreciable difference to results.
  • Register early and plan to write in the fall months. The winter sessions are oversubscribed.
  • An applicant who writes later than the end of January may not receive results in time to be considered in the first round of admissions offers.
  • Branksome Hall does not use the SSAT to screen applicants; therefore, interviews may be conducted before the test is taken.
  • Register for an SSAT>>
