Math Teachers Are Students Too
You may think it’s all pi in the sky for our Math teachers, but they are actually a down-to-earth, team who aim to share, teach and learn!

Our Math Department attended this year’s Independent Schools of Ontario Mathematics Association’s (ISOMA) annual conference in full force, taking the opportunity to discuss the latest developments in Math education with over 100 teachers from 23 independent schools.

Edith Louie, our Math Instructional Leader (departmental head) has been leading her peers as president of ISOMA for a number of years.

Ms Louie said, "I’m proud of our Math Department and their outstanding commitment to best teaching practice.”

New to Branksome this year, Ms Gail Schwiersch made her mark leading a conference session on fostering inquiry through number talks, visual patterns, and proofs. She also recently contributed to an IB blog giving teachers tips on how to deal with students’ “mathematics anxiety.”

Students can expect their Math teachers to be full of new ideas and approaches on the many topics discussed, including coding, spatial reasoning and cross-curricular projects.

Thanks to Holy Trinity School for hosting the ISOMA conference and to members of our Math Department for their commitment to lifelong learning.
