Start the Year off with an Intention
What’s your New Year’s resolution? While some people start the year off with a resolution they’d like to keep, Junior School girls have been encouraged to set an intention for the year.

“Think of an intention you’d like to set for yourself,” Sarah Craig, Head of the Junior School, told the girls in assembly, asking them, “Do you want to be a caring friend? A good listener?”

She encouraged students to think about how to make it their best year yet and find ways they can work on this intention.

Building on this theme, teacher Kristin Buchanan pointed out that little things can make a big difference in someone’s life. She wears a button every day, which reads, “#1 Terry Fox Fan.” The button, made by students as a gift, reminds her that this small act of kindness inspires her to smile every day.

“Think about ways you can do little things to make our community better,” she said. “Maybe you can hold the door for someone, or tidy up a table you see needs a little work. Doing these things without being asked but because you want to is a great way to try something small that can make a big difference.”

Everyone at Branksome looks forward to a great 2017!
