Empowering Young Women Through Technology
Guest speaker Nicole Belanger is passionate about empowering young women to further their technology skills. In assembly, she told the story of a young girl who created her own algorithm for doctors to prevent unwanted prescription drug interactions. She encouraged Branksome girls to think about the ways they can combine their own passions with technology.

"No matter what you do, technology is going to touch your life in more frequent and interesting ways than you can imagine," she said. "It's not if you learn to code, but when you learn to code."

Ms Belanger asked students to make a pledge—"every time you're offered a chance to learn a new piece of technology, take it," she said. "Take it for your community, for the people you love. When you take your passions and hitch them to technology, you can change many people's lives."

Branksome Hall participated in Hour of Code on December 6, in honour of Computer Science Education Week, which takes place from December 5 to 11.
