St. John's Alumnae Lunch
Cod tongues anyone?

This local delicacy sounds almost too adventurous for some, but was highly recommended by our Newfoundland alumnae who met for lunch at Blue on Water on June 7.

In the oldest Canadian city of St. John's, six alumnae, along with Branksome's Associate Director of Alumnae Relations, Tanya Pimenoff, chatted for hours about their Branksome days, their lives post-plaid and their shared admiration for "the rock."

Reminiscences ranged from memories of favourite teachers to hilarious residence stories. As conversation flowed, everyone learned about current lives, studies and activities and, of course, tourist recommendations.

So, what to see and do while in St. John's? The must-sees are Cape Spear, Signal Hill, Battery Road, the Johnson Geo Centre, and the authentic shops and coffee spots along Water Street. Spotting a celebrity isn't out of the ordinary either, with the cast of Republic of Doyle either filming or enjoying the sights just as you are.

But when it comes to getting "screeched in" (kissing a frozen cod and taking a shot of rum), our alumnae insisted this is the only way to be initiated into what has truly become a Newfoundland tradition!
