Collection of Debating Trophies Grows
Branksome has expanded its already impressive collection of debating trophies. Students Camilla Akbari, Clare Moffatt and Sofia Zaman achieved excellence at the International Independent Schools’ Public Speaking Championship held at Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School, in Alberta, October 25 to 28.

Branksome Hall was the top school overall, out of the 42 schools that attended. In addition, for the third year in a row, Branksome Hall was the top Canadian school.

Individually at the Internationals, Branksome achieved success as well, with Camilla Akbari placing fourth overall and Clare Moffatt placing fifth overall out of more than 130 competitors. Camilla also qualified to attend the Worlds in Durban, South Africa in March 2013.

“We are all very excited about the results,” says Debate Coach Ms Tracy Dalglish, adding that debaters achieved success in two other recent tournaments.

Students Emma Potvin and Mallika Chandaria made it to the finals at the recent McGill High School Debating Tournament held in Montreal from October 26 to 27. In addition, the following members of the Debating Team won the RSGC Saucer Tournament on November 3:

  • Sonia Mahajan and Emma Potvin (placed first out of 22 teams)
  • Safa Majeed and Zameena Lakhani
  • Mallika Chandaria and Priyanka Dogra

At the Saucer Tournament, Sonia Mahajan was the top speaker out of 44 participants.

Congratulations to all of our debaters!
