Two students try out the newly landscaped Quad.
Students are enjoying some new campus places and spaces this year.
One revamped space is the Quad, located between the Senior and Middle school buildings. The Quad has had a much-needed facelift, complete with new landscaping that includes grass, new paving stones and curved seating.
Students are welcome to use the Quad as a tranquil place to study, catch up with friends, or take in the nature surrounding our school.
During lunchtime, Junior School students are now eating in the newly renovated Potting Shed, a heritage building outfitted to accommodate up to 100 students.
The Potting Shed overlooks the beautiful ravine on Branksome’s property and will give our girls a peaceful location to refuel at lunchtime. The Potting Shed is also where our Residence students’ breakfasts and dinners are served. Additional lunchroom changes were made to the Rainbow Room, at 10 Elm. A servery was added this summer to provide healthy grab-and-go meals.
In previous years, the school’s lunchroom was located in MacNeill House, which was recently demolished in preparation of our new Athletics and Wellness Centre, set to open in fall 2014.
The school’s good-humoured Prefects were inspired by all of these changes happening around the school and incorporated this when creating the Prefect Motto. Each year, the Grade 12 Prefects come up with a motto that acts as a guiding phrase throughout the school year.
“Dare to Detour” is the this year’s motto, and it encourages students to try a new route — literally— such as exploring a different building on campus, or figuratively—by embracing a new academic challenge, joining a sports team or starting a club.
Prefects encouraged fellow students to “make the journey as distinct and interesting as possible.”
