 7:00 a.m. Volleyball – Go Highlanders!

For most Middle School students, Wednesday is a late start day, but I play for the U13 Volleyball team. Volleyball is my favourite sport, so getting up early is worth it! There are 12 girls on my team and our coaches are Ms Smith, Ms Wong and Mike from Galaxy Volleyball. This is my third year playing volleyball. I was on the Grade 6 team at the Junior School and before that I went to volleyball clinics each Friday morning to develop my skills.

9:20 a.m. Math – one of my favourite classes

One of my favourite classes. Right now we are learning about algebra! We learned how to collect like terms and substitute values in the place of a variable. Every few classes we have a quiz to make sure we understand everything that has been taught and figure out what we need to improve on. Also, my teacher, Ms Boon, creates pages with information such as definitions and procedures for solving algebraic equations using different strategies.

 10:40 a.m.

Quick break to get to my next class!

10:45 a.m. Drama – making younger students smile

We're learning about children's theatre right now, and we're rehearsing a performance for the SK girls in the Junior School to teach them about waste management. In groups we created animations and as a class we wrote a live piece to the performance as well. My teacher is Ms Farmer and at the beginning of each class, we do a physical and vocal warm-up that helps us with team-building and cooperation.

12:05 p.m. Lunchtime – time with my friends

I usually eat my lunch on the Main Floor of the Middle School with my friends Perry, Gabby and Fiona. At lunch I can eat with whoever I want, which I like because I can eat with some of my friends who I don't have any classes with. Sometimes I get my lunch from the Rainbow Room or Tuck Shop, and sometimes I bring it from home.

12:50 p.m. Humanities and Social Sciences

This is another one of my favourite classes. Right now, we are learning the French explorers and the discovery of New France. My teacher, Ms Campbell-Rogers, creates PowerPoints for us to teach us about the development of New France. My favourite part about this unit has been learning about the Seven Years War. It is really interesting to learn about the different strategies that the British and French created prior to the attack.

2:15 p.m. Physical and Health Education

In PE right now we're in the Swimming Unit, inside the pool learning about synchronized swimming. At the beginning of each pool class, we get changed into our bathing suits and have a shower before we get into the pool. Our teachers, Ms Kniaz and Ms Stamper, are teaching us a routine that everyone in the class will perform. Then, in our groups, we have to create 24 counts of our own synchronized routine to add on to the base of the routine.

 3:35 p.m. Homeroom – time for review

My homeroom teacher, Ms Bincik, goes over our homework for the day and tells us about upcoming events. This week we have the Winter Walk for homeless youth, so Ms Bincik reminded us to bring in our permission forms and to dress warmly for the walk!

 3:45 p.m. Chamber Choir

The Chamber Choir performed in assembly many times and at the Carol Service in December. We rehearse every Wednesday after school until 5:15 p.m. We sing songs from different composers that our Conductor and Music teacher Ms Olfert chooses. In Chamber Choir we have different parts: Soprano 1, Soprano 2 and Alto. I am a Soprano 1. In every song, we sing using our different parts and it sounds very balanced. Through Chamber Choir I have made new friends in different grades who I would not have had the opportunity to get to know had I not joined Chamber Choir.
