 7:00 a.m. Badminton

I start my day early with Badminton practice in the Senior Gym. Badminton is one of my favourite sports. This year, I am playing number one on Branksome’s doubles team, with my partner, whose name is also Sophie! We meet two mornings a week with our coaches, Ms Colwell and Ms Anderson. Today Ms Colwell is giving us an extra-challenging workout in preparation for our upcoming match. So far this season, we’ve been undefeated. Our team consists of eight pairs and we play as part of the U14 age group.

 8:30 a.m. Math – getting SMART

In math class we get to use our tablet laptops to do our work. We started using our own laptops this year and it adds a lot of fun to the class. Also, my teacher, Ms Ketchum, can project our work onto the SMARTBoard, where it can be seen by the whole class. This always helps me understand what we are learning better.

 11:15 a.m. Lunch – BB Squad

As a Clan Rep, I have to help organize BB Squad - this stands for "Branksome Beautiful Squad” and, when it’s your turn, you have to take responsibility for keeping an area of the school clean. So, every eight days I go around the Mid Div with girls in my clan, helping to clean up after lunch.

 12:05 p.m. Science

In science this year we are learning about many new things, such as what a PH strip does. Ms Boon always brings up interesting real-life topics in science, like the effect of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and how to use our fair share of water.

 1:30 p.m. French – talking about squash

I am in the Extended French Program, which means that I take Extended French one day and geography in French the other day. In French class, we are all working on improving our oral communication skills. Ms Srinivas gave us an assignment where each girl in the class prepares a 10-minute talk about a subject or topic she enjoys. I just completed mine on my favourite sport, squash. I explained about the history, famous players and why I enjoy playing squash. It brought a really interesting aspect to the class!

 3:35 p.m. After school – more squash

Right after school, I go and play squash in Downsview Park. I play for two hours most nights and I’ve played at national competitions. After squash I come home and complete my homework. Although Grade 8s do not have that much, I still have a few things to complete tonight. My best homework nights are when we have Mid Div No Homework Due Days.
