 Andrea DORFMAN’87

​  Award-Winning Filmmaker, Artist, Teacher

Andrea is an artist, filmmaker and teacher whose work has been widely viewed and awarded by Canadian and international audiences. She has created a number of experimental short and feature films, including Parsley Days and Love That Boy, as well as the documentary, Sluts. Her recent animated works, Flawed and Big Mouth, were both nominated for Emmy awards. Andrea's video collaboration with poet Tanya Davis, How To Be Alone, has become an Internet sensation, gaining nearly six million views on YouTube. The video received such wide acclaim that HarperCollins is scheduled to release a book version in October 2013.

Andrea currently shares her creative talents as a teacher and mentor at NSCAD University. She also applies her filmmaking skills to charitable causes, including several fundraising videos for fellow alumna Fiona Sampson's ('81) non-profit, The Equality Effect. Her newest artistic project, a feature film called Heartbeat, will begin production in the fall of 2013.

Andrea was recently named one of ten winners of the 2013 Creative Catalysts search by The Globe and Mail for her creativity and contributions to the artistic community.
